History: In the mid-1800's, Robert Reid accidentally crossed an old dent variety "Gordon Hopkins" with an early native American Flint "little yellow". This mistake is the base of some of the most widely used genetics in corn production today. The "J" in the variety is for John Simmons, the organic grower in Michigan, who has worked for years improving this strain of Reids.
